"Sorgente - Rizziconi" 380 kV Three-phase Power Line – Landscape Inclusion Design and Requalification of Scilla, Villafranca Tirrena and Favazzina power stations
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The work involved the development of landscape rehabilitation and inclusion projects for the power stations of Scilla (RC), Villafranca Tirrena (ME) and Favazzina (RC), in the context of the construction of a new 380 kV double circuit power line between Sicily and Calabria.
In particular, the Favazzina landscape rehabilitation project dealt with landfall area revitalization. In this area it is going to be built an electrical substation requiring a necessary redevelopment plan regarding the waterfront of Favazzina (Scilla-RC) beach. The plan is aiming at enhancing the land-sea relationship through upgrading beach access and increasing typical vegetation growth.
As part of the compliance procedure, the Environmental Monitoring Project was revised and a vegetation census was conducted.
PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS
The Landscape Inclusion Design concerning Favazzina landfall revitalization showed particularly complex aspects. The proposed project, in fact, was not only limited to the landing place of the submarine cables but represented an opportunity to plan a wider upgrade of the entire stretch of coast affected by the work. The project, grasping the importance of the context distinctive elements, set as its objective the enhancement of the existing beach access and the development of new waterfront promenades in order to improve the land-sea relationship.
The vegetation landscaping solution designed for the waterfront increases the presence of characteristic landscape features such as lemon groves.
The main environmental issues covered are listed below:
• Analysis of the context exclusive elements;
• Analysis of the infrastructure system;
• Study of the relationship between the coastline and urban structuring;
• Identification of positive and negative project features related to the landscape;
• Examination of historical and cultural heritage;
• Vegetation landscaping solution;
• Architectural design of the electrical substation:
- Landscape Inclusion Design of the building and fence elements;
- Selection of finishes and materials through the study of local resources (flooring stones, typical fences, natural pigments, etc.).
