Environmental Impact Study of the new ferry dock and Safety Enhancement of the tourist wharf of Capraia Port
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The work involves the upgrade of Capraia tourist port from a structural and functional point of view, taking into consideration the fact that its main activities concern pleasure boating, commercial traffic and fishing boats.
The project design was based on the comparison among different engineering solutions selecting the option able to better integrate the functional requirements of the works and the preservation of the environmental balance of the area concerned.
In fact, the intervention context is one of important environmental value as established by the area identification as a Site of Community Importance (SCI), regulated by the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC).
PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS
Through the study of the coastal hydro-dynamism, it was possible to evaluate the potential alterations related to the dredging works in terms of increased water turbidity. This procedure was necessary in order to verify the conceivable modifications of the marine ecosystem, both for the biotic (plant and animal communities) and abiotic (water circulation, seabed morphology) components.
The landscape analysis highlighted the effect of the complicated coastal layout, which also presents elements of interest and importance. This theme requested a more detailed evaluation, carried out through the reconstruction of the visual conditions before and after the interventions along with the related elaboration of photo simulations.
Furthermore, a specific acoustic study was conducted starting from the individuation of the receptors affected during the construction and operational phases. The noise simulation software allowed to obtain noise curves proving that the acoustic values are within the limits for all the receptors.
