Vegetation and fauna monitoring for the redevelopment and environmental enhancement project of Turin-Bardonecchia section of A32e Highway - Autoroute de la Maurienne A43

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

In the framework of INTERREG III A Programme - Italian Alps border cooperation (ALCOTRA) “environmental regeneration of the highway axis of the Turin - Bardonecchia A32 and A43 Autoroute La Mourienne “, a complex monitoring activity in Val di Susa was performed. It concerned the main environmental and natural aspects able to identify the best bio-indicators of modifications and environmental pressures originated by the works on the ground in mountain valleys.

SPECIFICITY OF THE STUDY

Monitoring carried out in the territory of the Val di Susa between autumn 2006 and autumn 2007, had the purpose of selecting the animal species and / or vegetable that, under present conditions in Val di Susa, can efficiently provide information on the overall status of the animal component and in particular of the most interesting species for conservation (ungulates and birds of prey). Thus, for those species, the purpose of this work is to evaluate the behavioral responses of animals which, in the area in question, have a significant ecological value in terms of life cycle, environmental needs, amplitude of the territories used and that at the same time allow to assess also the needs of other animal species more difficult to observe but of high interest for the conservation. The monitoring was held with respect to natural and artificial samplers and potential biomarkers (vertebrates). The following services have been provided: survey sheets, cartographic papers of analysis and of evaluation, final monitoring report.
