Environmental Impact Study of the 2003 Port Master Plan for “Porto del Valle†of Porto Santo Stefano (GR)
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The port presents several critical factors mainly related to the high congestion of the entire port facility and the inadequacy of the road access to the port and inhabited area nearby. These issues are highlighted in the Port Master Plan, whose aims are to enhance the functional specialization of the port, the relocation of the ferry docks (new ferry dock), the redevelopment of the fishing area, the reorganization of the waterfront dedicated to pleasure boating and the extension of shipbuilding zones.
PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS
Considering the planned interventions and their highly urbanized location along with the important landscape value, it was possible to determine the following EIS (Environmental Impact Study) key themes:
- Landscape Inclusion Design taking into account the urban context;
- Study of coastal dynamics;
- Noise Analysis related to maritime and vehicular traffic;
- Impacts on Natura 2000 sites.
The selection of landscape interventions was based on the implementation of environmental aspects able to promote local renovation processes.
The two principal parts of the intervention are represented by the port basin and the road access along SS440 section between Porto del Valle and Santa Liberata node.
