Environmental Impact Study for the project of new Marina of Formia "Marina di Cicerone"
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The work involved the construction of a new port facility, completely dedicated to tourist activities, including the creation of about 600 berths as envisioned in the Regional Plan for the Ports (1998). In fact, the development of this new port basin to the south of the then-current commercial port, allowed the upgrade of the docking capacity of Formia.
The project configuration was defined by the construction of:
- an overflow dam made with precast reinforced-concrete revetments for a length of about 1100 m;
- a breakwater quay made with poured-concrete method.
The work also included the partial embarking, reshaping and docking of the existing external breakwater dam. Regarding mooring operations, there was a preference for floating docks, while a present square, property of the Lazio Region, was chosen as a location for the ground works.
