Ante-operam Environmental Monitoring of the new off-motorway service station in San Didero

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The relocation of the Susa new off-motorway service in the municipality of San Didero is one of the strategic works related to the construction of the new railway line Turin-Lyon.

The site identified for the relocation of off-motorway service station is adjacent to the highway of the A32, approximately at the height of the progressive kilometer 24 + 800 to the north, occupying a derelict area of approximately 68,000 square meters between the municipalities of San Didero and Bruzolo.

Currently the area is accessible from the state road 25 “del Moncenisio” through a large access square. From the topographic point of view, the concerned area is flatter, and it is separate from bed of Doria Riparia and from the raised stretches of hightway. The raised stretches is made permeable to floods.

Within this area is the new Autoporto which will include an area for Truck Station, a parking for heavy vehicles, a service area, and a new central control post.

The accessibility at the new stand of Autoporto will guaranteed both from the highway A32 and from the main road n. 25. As for the motorway network, access will be achieved through the construction of appropriate acceleration/deceleration lanes (both towards Turin and Bardonecchia), while for SS25, access will be guaranteed by the construction of special roundabouts and new access road routes.

SPECIFICITY OF THE STUDY

Environmental monitoring was carried out in 2 fixed locations, continuously active for 365 consecutive days. The ultimate aim of the monitoring has been to define the exact level of concentration of the various pollutants in the ante-operam phase, in order to assess with precision the possible impact produced on going and post operam phases.

Specifically, the Environmental Monitoring Plan provided for the study of the following environmental components:

• Asbestos airbone;
• Atmosphere;
• Noise;
• Surface Water;
• Ground water;
• Flora;
• Fauna (Chiroptera);
• Soil.

The overall work involved the following activities:

  • Ante-operam monitoring plan Processing on the basis of the Monitoring Plan provided on the of the tender documents;
  • Support to the client for the interface meetings with control Bodies, in particular with ARPA Piemonte;
  • Preparation of the operating time schedule of the environmental monitoring activities;
  • Execution of the Environmental Monitoring activities previewed in the time schedule;
  • Drafting of periodic and final reports;
  • Upload monitored data to the dedicated IT portal.
