EIA of final design about “Waterfront di Levante” project, main Canaletto and Canale in Genoa Port

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The designated area is founding in Genoa Port, and it is called New Waterfront of Levante.

The project is part of a strategy of the city of Genoa for the redevelopment of the entire city’s seafront, which began with the reopening to visitors of the area of the Old Port and Aquarium, both designed by Architect Renzo Piano, and with the progressive reappropriation by the city of its relationship with the sea, as the evolution of port activities has allowed it.

The cooperation from the institution and Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW s.r.l.), it is following a strategy of long term, as well as large scale involving the entire city Waterfront, and is confirmed in the town planning tools.


In the exhibition area, the increasing of exhibition activities is opening a new scenario of recovery of areas with the enhancement of buildings no longer used and the reopening of the area to the city.
VDP has been charged by the Municipality of Genoa to draw up the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Project that is located in this framework and that consists in the creation of a tourist dock through the excavation of part of the artificial embankment realized with carryover land in the 1950s for the construction of the formerfair, in order to realize two navigable canals (Canaletto and Main Canal) that connect to the existing body of water and that are destined to the mooring of medium - small pleasure craft.

The Environmental Impact Study, drawn up on the basis of Legislative Decree no. 152/06 and SMI amended by Legislative Decree no. 104/17, taking into account the indications provided by the SNPA Guidelines 28/2020 relating to “Technical Standards for the Drafting of Environmental Impact Studies” which integrate the minimum content required by art. 22 (Environmental Impact Study) and the indications of Annex VII to the second part of Legislative Decree 152/2006

SPECIFICITY OF THE STUDY

The study highlights a substantially positive value of the project on all environmental components examined from the landscape and land use.
