Cycle Paths - Study of alternatives and Technical-Economic Feasibility Projects

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Within the Urban Plan of Sustainable Mobility of the city of Rome wide scope for cycling sectors, including the design of numerous cycle paths along the main streets of the city.
VDP participated in the study of some bicycle routes drawing up the feasibility document on project alternatives (DOCFAP) for the following strett:Via Gregorio VII, Via delle Botteghe Oscure, Via della Lega Lombarda, Via Nomentana, Via Nazionale, Tuscolana, Via E. Filiberto e Stazione La Giustiniana.
At a later stage, after joint evaluations with Roma Mobilità client, the technical-economic feasibility project was developed for some sections. The documentation has made deeping many themes. The documentation has been written deepening various topics, starting from the description of the state of the places and the criticalities found in the original route. Moreover the following plans have been considered: General Urban Development Plan, the Cycle Master Plan and the General Urban Traffic Plan. The appropriate cycle paths have therefore been designed, referring to municipal urban transport regulations, planning tools and the landscape and archaeological context.

PROJECT CHARATERISTICS

The preparation of the documentation, for the eight sections above, provided the analysis of the area both from the point of view of landscape and traffic.
After the cognitive analysis, for every road section crossed by the project, was carried out an analysis on the road classification from the Road Regulations, with its functional classification of the urban roads of Rome Capital.
From this classification it has therefore arrived to define for every route the possibility or not to insert the cycle paths and the relative characteristics. The General Plan of Urban Traffic determines “the general guide lines for the eligibility of traffic users on various types of roads and areas” defining the modalities for inserting a cycle path on the appropriate road base, according to one of the following modalities:

• Protected Bike paths;
• Bike paths on a reserved lane on the sidewalk;
• Bike paths on a reserved lane on the road;
• Pedestrian and cycle paths;
• Cycle paths and vehicle routes.

The design involved the production of text documents and graphic works, both in plan and in section, and for each type of track designed. To complete the cycle path, it was also planned to install different support equipment such as racks and ducts that facilitate the movement between different mobility systems.

Finally, expenditure analyses were carried out for the main macro-activities necessary for the realisation of the necessary cycle path, with the production of an economic situation indicative of the amount of work, the costs of safety and final and detailed design.
