Feasibility study and design for the realization of bike parking spaces

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The activities concern a first stage about the feasibility study and the identification of suitable locations for the realization of private bike parking spaces (process completed) and a second stage about details definition and final and executive designs (in progress).
The project activities are co-financed by the European Union - European Structural and Investment Funds under the National Operational Program for Metropolitan Cities 2014-2020.

SPECIFICITY OF PROJECT

The first goal of the study was the identification of suitable locations for the Bike Parking slots. The design provides for indoor closed parking areas available to the customers by proceeding to a first registration and an authentication every time they want to get in.
The chosen areas are close to transport interchanges, such as subway stops or interrail stations. The customer will be able to reach these areas riding his bike, leave it in the Bike Parking, he will get on a subway or a train, and finally he will be able to pick up his bike once come back. The feasibility study, ended on June 2018, selected 63 areas to develop Bike Parking, ensuring thereby 2300 bike spaces.
During the second stage the features of the facilities are established in detail, providing for the use of different materials to ensure a great integration in the urban environment (for example perforated metal sheeting, glass panels, etc). The selected areas are different from one another: some of them are designed inside the stations, some outside them. The latter will be provided with a roof to protect the bike spaces.
In every Bike Parking a video-surveillance system (managed by ATAC) will be also installed to guarantee the security of the area, monitoring the service is used properly.
Every Bike Parking will have about 30 bike spaces and will be equipped with tools for the routine maintenance of the bikes (bicycle pumps, wrenches and screwdrivers).
The pass to use the Bike Parking will be part of the public transport pass of Rome: the METREBUS CARD will ensure the access to the parks (the pass management is currently being defined).
