Preliminary geological study regarding the 220-kV Electrical Substation in the municipality of Tornolo (PR)
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Preliminary geological study concerned the final project regarding the integration in the national transmission grid (NTG) of the electricity generated from Albareto and Torno wind farms. This integration required the construction of electricity distribution facilities in the municipality of Tornolo; in particular a 220-kV electrical substation.
VDP carried out geological, geomorphological and geo-mechanical studies and analyses in order to determine and characterize the widespread geomorphological instability in the area involved by the substation project.
PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS
The geological study included the stages listed below:
- Phase 1: Preliminary Activities
- Bibliographic research concerning geomorphological studies already conducted in the area;
- Research and analysis of satellite photos taken in different years;
- Examination of cartography regarding specific risks and hazards in the area and listed in different Territorial Plans (such as PAI, IFFI, Regional, Provincial and Municipal Plans and CARG Territorial Plans);
- Phase 2: Field activities
- Detailed geomorphological survey of the substation area;
- Geological-structural investigation and geo-mechanical surveys;
- Hydrogeological and piezometric survey of present wells and piezometers.
- Phase 3: Data Processing and Presentation
- Elaboration of the geological and geomorphological map including a detailed description of the zone hydrogeology;
- Elaboration of geological cross-sections for the geological modelling of the site;
- Geological report with the definition of surveys;
- Determination of potential mitigation interventions and containment measures regarding possible critical issues.
