Evaluation of workers' exposure levels to electromagnetic fields, radon gas, noise and vibrations

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

With the purpose of obtaining a continuous improvement in the working conditions and in the health and safety situation of its workers, SITAF regularly updates the Single Document on Interference Risk Assessment. To this end, it was necessary to measure and assess the exposure levels of the employees in their work environments.

The monitoring focused on the following environmental components:

  • Noise;
  • Vibrations;
  • Electromagnetic fields;
  • Radon gas.

VDP carried out the monitoring through surveys in the several environments concerned by the different working activities, both usual and exceptional.

PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS

The surveys were performed through measurements in offices, in tunnels, at traffic agents’ locations, near motorway toll gates and inside the construction structure of viaducts because of the presence of technical systems.
The aim of these investigations was to assess the workers’ exposure levels to the monitored components and in case of potential health issues, to define the appropriate mitigation measures, both direct (emission source) and indirect (worker).
