Environmental Impact Study for Brindisi – "Salento Airport" - Project for Infrastructural and Operational Improvement
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Brindisi Airport “Airport of Salento” is a structure of great strategic importance that serves a very large area. The project is part of a framework of interventions aimed at maintaining high levels of quality offered: on the “air side” front are planned expansions of existing parking and a new section of the perimeter access road.
PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS
The acoustic analysis conducted by software simulation aimed at assessing the compatibility of the interventions with the noise limits. The estimate of total emissions, generated both from the aeronautical and vehicular sources, allowed to evaluate the noise levels in airport area, even indirect ones. It has been therefore possible to develop an appropriate Acoustic Monitoring Plan. The study also addressed the issue of Bird Strike through a specific Ornithological Study: the identification of elective habitat and habits of the species allowed to identify the most suitable mitigation measures to limit the availability of vocational sites and reduce the sources of attraction, in order to reduce the risk of bird strike at the airport.
In addition to these specific studies as part of the assignment, design alternatives have been developed: analysis of intervisibility, analysis of vegetation existing within the airport area, landscaping and environmental integration design.
