Environmental Pre-Feasibility Study regarding the new Grazzanise Airport Project

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In December 2001, the Institutional Agreement Framework was signed between Campania Region and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The agreement recognized the strategic importance of Campania airport system; in particular it gave a relevant significance to the development of Grazzanise Airport.
In 2004, Campania Region drafted and then approved the “Study on the development of Campania airport system and new Grazzanise airport” (DGR. 154/2004).
The document deemed necessary the construction of an international airport and its related infrastructures (road and railway connections) adjacent to the present military airport in Grazzanise.

The role given to the new airport can be understood with regard to the expansion limits of Naples Capodichino Airport.
Concerning Grazzanise, GESAC Company plans the construction of a Class IV airport, with possible enhancement to 4F class. The airport will have an initial capacity of 8/9 million passengers per year, that later will be expanded to 24 million passengers. At the same time the construction of a network of related infrastructures is planned.

The Environmental Pre-Feasibility Study is part of the commitments assumed by GESAC with ENAC (Civil Aviation Authority). It is required in the following document: “Environmental Preliminary Report on the potential significant impacts regarding the implementation of the projects involving Grazzanise Airport as stated in D.Lgs. 152/2006 and subsequent modifications and additions”.
