DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

The activities concerned the creation of the Municipal Acoustic Classification Plan in accordance with the Framework Law 447 dated 26/10/1995 and its implementing decrees, as well as the Regional Law of Tuscany 1 December 1998, n. 89 Rules on noise pollution.
Although the acoustic zoning is strictly a matter of Municipal competence, this work has involved a “large area” composed by 11 regional municipalities merged in the entity of the Empoli Valdelsa. The municipalities involved are, in alphabetical order, Capraia e Limite, Castelfiorentino, Cerreto Guidi, Certaldo, Empoli, Fucecchio, Gambassi Terme, Montaione, Montelupo Fiorentino, Montespertoli, Vinci, all located in the province of Florence.
The Empolese Valdelsa District has a total of almost 170,000 inhabitants on a territorial extension of approximately 750 square kilometers, corresponding to an average population density of 220 inhabitants / km2. The 11 municipalities differ a lot, extending from very low population densities, as in the case of Montaione with 35 inhabitants / km2, to more substantial densities, as in the case of Empoli with 745 / km2.

SPECIFICITY OF THE PROJECT

Two documents for each municipality have been drafted, one concerning the preliminary zoning and one referring to the final zoning, on the basis of the results of acoustic investigations and optimizations. Optimizations concerned the size of the areas, the issues of continuity between areas in different classes and the identification of areas for temporary show.
In particular, for the acoustic investigations, measurements on 450 stations with weekly and daily investigations have been carried out .
