Environmental Pre-Feasibility Study for the Rome Public Transport Corridor (Sections: T3 Fidene-Ponte Mammolo and T6 Portuense-Grotta Perfetta)
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The T3 section project covers the northeast part of the City of Rome and involves areas located in the proximity of Rome ring road (GRA) near Castel Giubileo exit.
Instead, the T6 section concerns the southern area of the city, from Piazza Morelli up to Roma 70 neighborhood along Portuense road. The involved territory is characterized by different typologies of settlement development, along the Tiber path in the section comprised between the former XV and XVI administrative areas (municipi).
Largely, the proposed interventions are related for the most part to the construction of dedicated bus lanes in order to improve the local public transportation service. Therefore the interventions do not determine the necessity to build new infrastructures that may alter the landscape and the city structure.
PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS
In order to carefully assess the planned interventions and their effects on the public or private transport system, a simulation model was developed and analyzed. The model inputs were based on the transport offer (service and infrastructure) and demand and the simulation took into account the user choices returning the network loads both in terms of passengers and vehicles.
In particular the implemented simulation model is able to assign the mobility demand (simulated by O/D matrices) for the particular transport network considered as a function of the actual performances of the transport infrastructure (frequency, speed, waiting and transfer times). In this way it is possible to minimize the travel time in no flow condition (t0 public transportation) or the travel time in maximum flow capacity (t private transport).
For what regards the natural elements affected by the project, namely the Urban Regional Park of Aguzzano and Aniene Nature Reserve, it was highlighted the importance of improving their natural offer and accessibility.
