Acoustic impact assessment of Clough-Kwale-Oshie (Nigeria) oil extraction plants

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The study aims to evaluate the acoustic impact produced by the installation of new oil refining systems in three existing petroleum separation plants located in Clough Creek, Kwale and Oshie in Nigeria.

The work is based on the following regulatory framework:
• Nigerian Environmental Impact Assessment Decree n. 86 (1992);
• Guidelines and Standards for Environmental Pollution Control in Nigeria, 1990.

PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS

The phases of the project can be summarized as follows:
• Analysis of the legal regulations pertaining to the project situation;
• Analysis and characterization of the acoustic sources present in the concerned areas, comprising of Mithra simulation models;
• Noise monitoring regarding the sound emissions caused by the new separation systems;
• Acoustic impact assessment concerning the sound emissions in the context of the existing extraction plants.

The last activity is performed through the evaluation of noise contours for specific elevations.
