Acoustic mapping and noise mitigation plan in accordance with D.Lgs. 194/2005 for A24 (Roma - L'Aquila - Teramo) and A25 (Torano – Pescara) motorways
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The study focuses on the development and implementation of a noise mapping procedure according to legislation (D.Lgs no. 194/2005) which transposes European Directive 2002/49 EC. The acoustic mapping concerns the A24 and A25 highway infrastructures managed by Strada dei Parchi S.p.A.
The work followed the guidelines of several national and international reference standards, such as the documents elaborated by the European Commission Working Group Assessment of Exposure to Noise” (WG – AEN): “Good practice guide for strategic noise mapping and the production of associated data on noise exposure – version 2, 13th January 2006 )” and “Guidance referring to Commission Decision” (Version 5.0 - Laying down a questionnaire to be used for reporting on environmental noise under the Directive 2002/49/EC).
PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS
The study involved 250 kilometers of highway and was split in 5 wide stages:
1. Determination of the area: the size of the investigation area is not defined in advance but on the basis of:
- The actual traffic flow;
- Infrastructure typology (trenches, embankments etc…);
- Territory topography;
- Number and type of placed receptors.
2. Noise indicators and source emission spectra: it was evaluated the weighting associated with the equivalent noise levels as a function of the time of day (LDEN).
3. Orographic characterization of the involved areas: definition of the three-dimensional mesh concerning land and buildings.
4. Noise indicator calculation using simulation models: code implementation in accordance with the requirements of EU guidelines.
5. Collection of statistical data in accordance with Annex 4 and 6 of D.Lgs 194/05.
