Acoustic zoning and mitigation plan of the Municipality of Molfetta

Implementation of the Municipal Acoustic Classification Plan under the Framework Law 447 of 26/10/1995 and its implementing decrees, as well as the guidelines of Puglia Region of 12th February 2002 n. 3 “Standards for containment and reduction of noise pollution” and context criteria that arise from the survey phase and referred to territorial, urbanistic and noise pollution features at Municipality of Molfetta

The town of Molfetta has about 60,000 inhabitants on a territorial extension of about 60 square kilometers, corresponding to an average population density of nearly 1,000 inhabitants / km2.

SPECIFICITY OF THE PROJECT

The results indicated that the city center is represented by class II and III zones, except for school and hospital buildings, included in Class I, as well as Garibaldi Square.
The Old Town is fully included in class II except for a small band, including the Old Cathedral, included in class IV.
The activities have been devloped with the support of a detailed phonometric measurement session, with measures on 55 points distributed throughout the area.

As part of the activities, the municipal noise abatement plan has been drafted, with the identification of areas to be rehabilitated and the choice of different types of action to be taken for specific cases.

For the purposes of the Municipal rehabilitation plan, 5 types of intervention to the specific situation to be remedied have been foreseen:
1) Acoustic barriers higher than 3 meters;
2) Acoustic barriers lower than 3 meters;
3) Sound-absorbing asphalt;
4) Road humps;
5) Structural interventions.
