Strategic Noise Mapping of Latina City area
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The map is elaborated through the use of computational models capable of determining long-term indicator values, in the three reference periods of daytime, evening and night. The study lasted a complete year and the models take into account meteorological effects and the emission fluctuations of the noise sources.
Software calibration was implemented through a phonometric investigation involving 50 measurement stations, each one representing a different municipal acoustic situation. Traffic and industrial sources were differentiated: the first was further divided into 8 classes on the basis of the traffic flow and the type of acoustic classification in accordance with Decree 142/2004.
The work determined the noise exposure in the municipality of Latina according to LDEN and LNIGHT indicators through 28 cartographic maps (scale 1: 10,000) and 8 cartographic maps (scale 1: 5,000).
With reference to the daytime noise generated from all the sound sources, the mapping showed that about 30% of the population is exposed to LDEN values lower than 50 dB, 30% to LDEN values greater than 65 dB and the remaining 40% is homogeneously distributed in the intermediate classes.
At night acoustic emissions decrease and the population exposed to LNIGHT values lower than 50 dB improves to almost 50%, while the inhabitants exposed to LNIGHT values higher than 65 dB represent less than a percentage point.
