Rehabilitation Project of Fiumicino (Rome) waterfront Maccarese (Fiumicino) - Province of Rome (RM)

Screening report for the rehabilitation and redevelopment project of Maccarese - Fiumicino waterfront

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project involves Maccarese waterfront, in the section between Fregene and Passoscuro seafronts for a length of about 2,600 m and an extension of about 100000 square metres. It consists of a morphological and functional redevelopment of the entire waterfront area with the construction of a series of infrastructures dedicated to tourist activities such as a new road, a cycle path, equipped rest areas, green areas and car parks.
The redevelopment project of the Maccarese seafront is the result of a formal recognition of the deterioration state of the Lido which has a great touristic potential along with the presence of zones of naturalistic value such as the Natural Reserve of the Roman Coast and of historical importance, both essential for the local economy.

In addition of avoiding any negative effect on the current state of the different environmental components, the work enhances the features of the waterfront itself, even if restricted by the limited area of the intervention. In fact, this seafront is one of the few remaining stretches of coastline not affected by uncontrolled anthropization, with a natural presence still prevalent, unlike most of the Roman coastline.

PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS

The screening report led to the conclusion that the work meets all the requirements of protection, recovery and environmental enhancement of the area as they are clearly stated and defined in the project objectives. Therefore the project does not require any further verification during the environmental impact assessment process.
