Natural Gas Compressor Station of Poggio Renatico Poggio Renatico - Province of Ferrara (FE)

Data processing, simulations and interpretative analysis in relation to pre and post-construction air pollution monitoring of Snam Natural Gas Compressor Station of Poggio Renatico (FE)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The study involved in-depth analyses on the dispersion of air pollutants regarding Snam Natural Gas Compressor Station of Poggio Renatico (FE). The pollution monitoring followed the requirements of the Integrated Environmental Authorization (IEA) procedure.
The activity consisted of simulations concerning atmosphere pollutant dispersion taking into account several timescales and different emission inputs.

PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS

Elaborations of the air quality analyses and meteorological data were carried out every three months in order to provide information for the following phases:

• Summer pre-construction period;
• Winter pre-construction period;
• Winter post-construction period;
• Summer post-construction period.

The dispersion analyses of pollutants in the atmosphere were conducted with the same equipment already used in the Environmental Impact Study in order to verify the model validity and results regarding the station sources, boilers and turbochargers (post-construction monitoring).
In particular, appropriate simulation scenarios were selected, consisting of meteorological measurements in the countryside and characterization of source emissive patterns in the same weather conditions. Ten scenarios were identified both for a single day and a single hour.
The emissive characteristics implemented in each simulation were developed starting from the monitoring data (supplied by Snam) of turbocharger exhaust manifolds at different thermal loads. This information allowed the determination, in the simulated scenarios, of the actual turbocharger impact as a function of the effective thermal load.
